RAiL:Y - Railway Trolley System

RAIL:Y is based on the track measurement system GEDO CE (by Trimble Navigation Limited) and was merged with the in-house system Raillakai of our partner GI-CONSULT. In 2013, the system was renamed RAIL:Y.

It can be used to build slab tracks with sub-millimeter accuracy, build ballast tracks with millimeter accuracy and document with centimeter accuracy. This flexible setup makes it possible to convert the trolley quickly and simply on-site.

The RAiL:Y system is able to measure the track width, camber, position and surrounding environment. All sensors and electronic components are mounted on the central support. The extensometer is integrated in the central support carriage which is mounted on the two ball bearings. These are at a height of 14 mm below the rail and pressed on the inside edge. The camber is determined by an inclinometer and an odometer, which timing belt is coupled with the roller of the support, detects the distance traveled.

Depending on the application, a Total Station, a GPS/GNSS receiver, a scanner or a prism can be placed. The software supports the use of Total Station Trimble S8-1 "Robotic". The GNSS-based positioning is also performed with Trimble receivers (e.g. Ex. Trimble R8-3). In addition, the RAiL:Y system can be operated with the laser scanner FARO Fokus3D for check track clearance.

Specially tailored for railway tasks and processes, hardware and software streamlines work in the field and the office. The system uses standard techniques and data formats to share information with leading applications for railway track design and maintenance.

RAiL:Y - PRE-MEASURING FOR TAMPING

The RAiL:Y is a suite of tools for measurement, recording, analysis and applications for railway track location,  construction and maintenance. Specially tailored for railway tasks and processes, hardware and software streamlines work in the field and the office. The system uses standard techniques and data formats to share information with leading applications for railway track design and maintenance.
Tools for Tamping Operations: One or two operators can quickly make pre- and post-tamping measurements on ballasted track. Using either single or two-trolley configurations, precise positioning is achieved by a Trimble S-Series Total Station. The trolleys can be easily removed from the track, to stay clear of tamping and construction machines.
The Office Software for processing and analysis of field data and data exchange with external systems. The Tamp Software for processing and analysis of field data. The system prepares data for tamping machines using measurements from Vorsys. Tamp supports standard formats for data exchange with tamping machines and systems. Vorsys Field software is tailored for pre-tamping measurement and data collection. It runs on the  Trimble TSC3 Controller and controls all measurement functions. Wireless connections eliminate cables and ensure trouble-free operations.

RAiL:Y - FOR TRACK DOCUMENTATION

Tools for Track Documentation with RAiL:Y Trolley: A single operator can quickly and securely capture information to document existing track. Positioning is supplied by Trimble GNSS Receivers or Trimble S-Series Total Stations. The trolley can be easily removed to stay clear of railway operations.
REC-Software: This field software optimized for track documentation and measurement runs on the Trimble TSC3 Controller. The office software for processing and analyzing field data and for data exchange with external systems.

RAiL:Y - FOR SLAB TRACK

Tools for Slab Track Construction and Adjustment: A single operator can quickly and safely capture information to document (the) existing track. Positioning is supplied by Trimble GNSS Receivers or Trimble S-Series Total Stations. The trolley can be easily removed to stay clear of railway operations. The office software for preparing alignments supports standard formats for data exchange with external systems.
The track field software that was optimized for slab track construction, adjustment and verification, runs on the Trimble TSC3 Controller. The Calc-Software can process, analyze and prepare documentation of the construction and final position.

RAiL:Y - SCAN SYSTEM

The RAiL:Y Scan System is a modern, efficient tool to collect detailed information about track and surrounding features. It makes it possible to quickly gather precise, high-resolution data for track clearance assessments and facilities management.

​​The RAiL:Y Scan System is a self-contained trolley used for the helical scanning mode and captures ceilings and walls to produce accurate 3D models. The software controls scanning operations and data collection from the scanner and the trolley. The modular system lets you use the FARO Fokus 3D scanner for other survey and facility needs.
The RAiL:Y Scan System utilizes a FARO Fokus 3D laser scanner to collect high-resolution datasets of three-dimensional points. The scanner is mounted on the RAiL:Y trolley, which collects location, gauge and cant information as it is moved along the track. The combined data produce detailed 3D models of tunnels, overpasses, stations and other facilities where precise information is needed for railcar clearance and asset management.
The system can operate in two modes. The local mode for track clearance analysis captures information based on the offset from the rail to nearby objects. In the absolute mode, the system can create 3D point clouds and tie objects to the rail as well as defined coordinate systems. For railway specific 3D visualization and analysis, it uses clearance envelopes and 3D models to simulate the movement of a railcar through an existing facility or stretch of track. The system can automatically detect locations where clearance encroachments may occur. For a detailed analysis, it can create cross section drawings and compare differences according to given profiles or envelopes.
